Hollywood at Springfield
Aside from Springfield State Hospital being one of the most impactful psychiatric hospitals of its time, it has also been used as the backdrop for some of Hollywood's most renown movies.
Red Dragon
The Men's Group at Springfield was used as the home of Hannibal Lecter in the 2002 movie, Red Dragon. This film follows detective William Grant (Edward Norton) who is trying to solve a chain of grizzly murders. He asks Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) to help him with the case.
Something The Lord Made
The Women's Group at Springfield is used as the set for the 2004 film, Something The Lord Made. The movie follows Although Vivien Thomas (Mos Def), a black man in the 1930s. He proves himself adept at assisting the Blue Baby doctor, Alfred Blalock (Alan Rickman), with his medical research.
Species II
The Men's Group at Springfield was used as the one of the several filming locations for the 1998 film, Species II. Having just returned from a mission to Mars, Commander Ross (Justin Lazard) is becoming a terrifying alien entity. Scientist Laura Baker (Marg Helgenberger) and hired assassin Press Lennox (Michael Madsen) use Eve (Natasha Henstridge), a more tempered alien clone, to find Ross and his brood.
Silent Fall
The Hubner Building and the McKeldin Building were used for the 1994 production, Silent Fall. Starring Richard Dreyfuss, Linda Hamilton, John Lithgow, J. T. Walsh, and Liv Tylerin. The plot focuses on a boy with autism who is the only witness to the savage double murder of his parents.
